| Course description | This is a course in translation into English.  Each week, students will translate a text, or an extract from a text sourced from a range of periods and genres (library, journalistic, didactic, techinical, commercial etc)and therefore in differing registers. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes 
By the end of this course, students will be able to produce accurate, effective and fluent English translations of Portuguese texts in a range of styles and registers.   
They will have excellent comprehension skills and a far more in depth understanding of the relationships between two languages and their usage, which will also help them considerably in their own Portuguese language compositions. | 
 
 
Assessment Information 
2 assessed translations each semester, from which the best two marks will be carried foreward (15% each) 
1 three hour examination consisting of two translations (70%) |
