| Course description | This course is suitable for complete beginners and aims to equip students with a very basic grounding in written and spoken Chinese. 
 
There is an identical course (Introductory Chinese Language - ASST07004) which runs in the second semester. 
 
On successful completion of the course students will have the option of taking Introductory Chinese Language 2 ASST07006 (20 credits) in Semester 2, which follows on from Introductory Chinese Language. |

Learning Outcomes 
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:  
1. be familiar with the basic principles of the speaking and writing systems of the Chinese language.  
2. have a good command of about 300 Chinese characters and some basic grammar and sentence structures that are used to express events in the present. 
3. have a basic understanding of China and its customs and ways of life.  |
