Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes 
By the end of the course, students will be expected to demonstrate: 
- an understanding of anthropological theories in relation to visual culture 
- an ability to analyse photographic images in reference both to content and context 
- an understanding of the uses the discipline has made of still photography throughout its development 
- an understanding of how ethnographic images might be evaluated as illustration, evidence and commentary |

(i) 1 long essay (4000 words) worth 80% of the available marks 
(ii) 1 short written assignment (max. 1500 words) worth 20% of the available marks |
