| Course description | Consolidation of work in Greek accidence and grammar from Elementary Greek (PG) 1, together with systematic treatment of the syntax of the complex sentence. A thorough grounding is provided in the syntax of subordinate clauses and of indirect speech. Postgraduates also have a weekly class to read selected texts, classical and/or medieval as appropriate. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should:-
- have consolidated their grasp of the accidence of the Greek language and acquired a basic working vocabulary;
- have an understanding of the syntax of the Greek sentence, simple and complex;
- be able to translate narrative Greek prose with the help of a dictionary;
- be able to apply their linguistic training to reading other kinds of writing (e.g. epic poetry). |

| Assessment is by an end of semester class test on passages read during the semester (translation and questions on points of language). |
