| Course description | Students will research in depth some aspect of musical history or analysis of their own choosing and will write a c.10,000 to 12,000 word dissertation, under the supervision of a member of staff. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes 
- Students will have learned how to carry out systematic and extended research into a musical topic. 
- They will have gained experience in planning and writing a piece of extended written work. 
- They will have learned how to synthesise information and views from a variety of sources. 
- They will have learned how to present a dissertation, properly referenced and with bibliography, appendices and all necessary scholarly apparatus. |
