| Course description | The rules governing competition law in the European Community and in the United Kingdom. The economics of competition law. The framework of the relevant provisions of the EC Treaty and the Competition Act 1998. Cartels; agreements; concerted practices; vertical restraints to competition; monopolies; oligopolies; mergers and take-overs.  Enforcement of the competition rules by the Commission and the Office of Fair Trading; judicial protection; civil remedies; problems of two-tier competition control. Public undertakings. State aids. Throughout there will be comparative consideration of the harmony and disharmony of Community and UK rules. |
