| Course description | To provide an understanding of scientific basis, and application , of large scale pharmaceutical preparation of prescription medicines (plasma products ) from blood plasma as well as the approach to regulation and licensing of these products. 
 
To provide an understanding of scientific basis of adverse immunological reactions to transfusion and the interpretation of these  reactions in clinical practice. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes 
At the completion of this course the student should understand the principles and practice of: 
-Plasma Fractionation 
-The range of plasma products and their clinical uses 
-Clinical trials and regulation of plasma products 
 
At the completion of the course the student should also be aware of the scientific basis and application in clinical practice of: 
 
-haemolytic disease of the newborn. 
-ante-natal serological techniques 
-the investigation of transfusion reactions 
-the laboratory investigation of immune haemolysis  
-the adverse immunological effects of transfusion |

Written assignment: 2500 words (60%) 
Participation in assessments during the week's course (spot tests, or multi-choice question (MCQ) assessment: 40%)
