| Course description | The course will introduce students to a range of theoretical, practical and methodological approaches needed for postgraduate study in Celtic and Scottish Ethnology.  Lectures in the first term will cover a variety of generic training and theoretical topics.  Lectures and workshops in the second term will provide more subject-specific training in medieval Celtic, modern Celtic and Scottish Ethnology subject areas.  A weekly writing workshop will develop students' practical writing and research skills; this will be staff-led in Term 1 and student-run in Term 2. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes 
| Students will receive preparation and support for their own research, and insight into practical, theoretical and methodological aspects of study in Celtic and Scottish Ethnology.  They will develop their own research and writing skills by participating in training sessions and practical workshops. |

The course will be assessed on coursework only, weighted as follows: 
Semester 1: literature review  (40%) 
Semester 2: theoretical/methodological approaches  (40%) 
Assessed oral presentation  (15%) 
Selection of writing group exercises  (5%) |
