Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. understand, describe and account for: the fundamental principles of atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, the solid state and the principles of thermodynamics and equilibria
2. identify the main organic function groups, understand, describe and account for the conformation and stereochemistry of simple organic molecules, the concept of reaction mechanism, reactions of alkenes, alkynes and benzene
3. use their knowledge to explain observations and solve problems associated with material covered in the course
4. use laboratory equipment in a safe manner in order to measure physical quantities, and to interpret and analyse the results
5. write clear, succinct laboratory reports
