| Course description | Indicative course content
The first of the two Design Studio modules provides opportunities for students to research, analyse and increase knowledge of the Diploma Unit's specialist subject area. Further opportunities test knowledge & and ability through short design proposals by both individual and group working. The intellectual content is intended to be both stimulating and exploratory.
Aims of course
1 Introduce students to a range of new concepts,topics, themes of enquiry, materials, processes,techniques, methodologies and philosophies.
2 Enable students to experiment with new concepts, ideas, processes, and materials to which they have been introduced
3 Test the learning within a prescribed context or set problem and explore both the artistic and intellectual implications inherent in their programmes.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principle issues, relevant theories, specific characteristics and features of architecture and a related specialised subject area by analysis and critical evaluation
2. An ability to evolve a spatial and material design strategy for a set problem and prescribed context which asks questions and takes risks
3. Display skills in communicating design proposals/creative propositions in relation to individual and group work by a selection of appropriate methods |
