| Course description | The Fourier series. Continuous and discrete Fourier transforms. Sampling theorems. The convulution theorem.  Auto-correlation and cross correlation. filtering and deconvolution.  Forward modelling, parameter estimation and inversion. Least squares solution; over-and under-determined problems. The co-variance matrix. Linearisation of non-linear problems. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes 
On complete of the course, the students should achieve the following learning outcomes: 
 
A familiarity of the mathematical operations for spectral analysis, filtering, and geophysics inversion problems 
A familiarity of the applications of the above to the analysis of seismic and potential field data in applied geophysics.
