Acronym : MED-P-P01440 To provide an understanding of scientific basis, and application , of large scale pharmaceutical preparation of prescription medicines (plasma products ) from blood plasma as well as the approach to regulation and licensing of these products. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Additional Class Information : The course will be delivered as a series of lectures combined with tutorials, spot tests and assessment exercise as a one-week residential course in Edinburgh. Students will be assigned background-learning work prior to this week. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
      At the completion of this course the student should understand the principles and practice of: 
	        -Plasma Fractionation -The range of plasma products and their clinical uses -Clinical trials and regulation of plasma products At the completion of the course the student should also be aware of the scientific basis and application in clinical practice of: -haemolytic disease of the newborn. -ante-natal serological techniques -the investigation of transfusion reactions -the laboratory investigation of immune haemolysis -the adverse immunological effects of transfusion Assessment Information
