* Honours degrees must include 40 credits of dissertation work in one or the other of the subjects.  A 20 credit unit towards the dissertation will be taken in third year, and a 20 credit completion unit in fourth year.

‡ Students who have not taken Gaelic language to Year 2 must select their Celtic Honours courses from the list of medieval options. Detailed information regarding course choices and availability is provided in course handbooks.
# Entry to year 3 normally requires a pass at 50% or above in English Literature 2 or Scottish Literature 2, or American Literature 2, and in either Gaelic 2A or Gaelic 2B (modern honours route) or Celtic Literature 2A and Celtic Literature 2B (Medieval honours route).
