Earthquake Engineering 5 (U00416)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : EEL-5-CVEQE The module introduces the elements of engineering seismology, seismic analysis methods and earthquake resistant design philosophy. Entry RequirementsSubject AreasHome subject areaDelivery Information? Normal year taken : 5th year ? Delivery Period : Semester 2 (Blocks 3-4) ? Contact Teaching Time : 3 hour(s) per week for 10 weeks Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to:
	        - identify the possible causes of failure in a poorly designed structure; - demonstrate basic knowledge of engineering seismology; - demonstrate an understanding of design seismic loading; - perform calculations to evaluate seismic response of simple structures using time history and spectral methods; - demonstrate an understanding of the importance of various parameters used in earthquake design codes; - demonstrate an understanding of the influence of different soil types on the seismic response of structures. Assessment Information
