To gain an understanding of the types of ecological knowledge and analytical techniques required for the scientific management of plant and animal populations in the wild. By exploring a series of case studies, this course includes the management of plant communities and rare plants, and the mitigation of perceived conflicts between man and wildlife in the context of conservation and the sustainable management of natural resources.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will understand the need for sound scientific information on the natural history and population and community dynamics of target species before problems of conservation and the management of problem species can be properly addressed at an appropriate level of management intervention

Assessment Information

There will be a single intermittent assessment undertaken during 3 hours of class time in the form of a data analysis exercise to answer a management problem
