This course builds on the introductory lectures in sociolinguistics you have had in Ling 1 and Ling 2. We will cover three main areas over the semester:
1. Methods of studying language variation and change
2. Language and computer-mediated communication
3. Language and identity

Analyse and interpret primary data; reason critically; identify and solve problems; formulate and test hypotheses; make principled choices between qualitative and quantitative methods.

Assessment is by: project(70%) and in-class exercise (30%).
