Summary	In this course students undertake an independent study which would involve the planning, execution and development of a significant piece of project work. The project for this course would require prior approval but could take a variety of forms including, but not limited to, clinical placements in an area of interest, where students are required to identify clinical learning objectives and the resources required to meet these objectives in a clinical setting; a work based project such as a clinical audit; or an education project related to clinical practice. The development of a learning contract would facilitate these processes.
Course description	The course is based on an action approach to learning. The students construction, delivery and presentation of their identified project will be their main learning experience, but with input from the programme that the students can access as optional support. These may include recorded lectures, live sessions, convened panels, or other resource within the University. Key milestones are set out in advance so progress can be tracked. Course paperwork is submitted for each of these points, and scheduled and ad-hoc check in sessions can be arranged by students on request. The projects will be refined by the student and programme staff to ensure that they can be supported within the current resource, minimises ethical challenges, and aims to develop skills and behaviours in time management, negotiation, problem-solving and communication. This is an elective course and may not be available every academic year. This will be subject to student numbers and availability of academic staff.
