| Summary | The aim of this course is two-fold. The first is to present the student with a series of economics topics that are currently policy relevant. The second is to provide the student with an understanding of how the tools taught in other coursework can be used to enlighten the debate surrounding these topics. Content will be reviewed annually in order to ensure that the course remains current. This course should be particularly of interest to those students interested in pursuing a career as an economist with the civil service, business or international public policy institutions. Recent topics include Organized Crime: Economic Analysis and Policy Implication; Cost Benefit Analysis in Government; The Economics of Climate Change; Post-crisis Labour Market and the Challenges for Policy Makers; Brexit and the Future of UK Trade; Appraisal in Health Economics |

The course consists of six 3 hour lectures each covering a distinct policy area. Each lecture will be delivered by a recognized expert. The lecturers will be drawn from the SGPE teaching staff and also usually from the Scottish Government, and possibly other academic and research institutions. |
