SummaryThis introductory course will give students fundamental skills in the collection of data, presentation of data, communication skills and writing skills which will be developed in the context of agri-food systems.
Course description This course will provide fundamentals skills in Scientific Methodology and the communication of science in an agri-food context. These skills will be placed in the context of personal learning and development and so act as the basis for effective learning in all other aspects of the programme All examples and teaching will be based on the agri-food industry to ensure fundamental skills are gained within an applied context.

The course will also aid students develop their own learning style, learn how to reflect on their own learning, to manage their time and plan their studies

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate awareness and understanding of research and scientific approaches in the context of challenges within agri-food systems.
  2. Apply knowledge, skills and understanding in using a range of techniques, practices and lines of enquiry e.g. through hypothesis setting, testing and data handling.
  3. Develop critical analysis and evaluation skills to provide evidence-based solutions to topical issues within agri-food systems.
  4. Demonstrate oral and written communication skills, numeracy and ICT competencies to convey relevant information.
  5. Personal development in learning, time management and planning as well as working with others and independently.
