Summary | This course will provide students with knowledge of the different types of ventilators and their function, different ventilation modes, how to assess adequacy of ventilation and the relevance of various factors affecting ventilation clinically. |
Course description |
- To be able to describe (with the use of diagrams where appropriate) the function of different types of ventilator
- To be able to discuss the differences between ventilation modes
- To be able to discuss the effects of various physiological and pathological states on ventilation
- To be able to discuss how to evaluate adequacy of ventilation including interpretation of blood gases
- To be able to discuss physiological changes associated with ventilation and ventilation or ventilator related complications
- To be able to discuss care of the ventilated animal
