| Summary | Public health interventions require robust and relevant development and evaluation methods. This course will be relevant to students who are involved in, or who would like to learn about the development or evaluation of public health interventions, and a range of methods for evaluating these, both experimental and non-experimental. |
| Course description |
This course will be taught entirely by online distance learning, using the virtual learning environment Learn as the delivery platform. Students will work individually and in groups, interacting via discussion boards.
During the course, students will explore the meaning of complex interventions in public health, learn about the phases in intervention development and will carry out an evaluation of a complex intervention project.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the differences between simple, complex and complicated public health interventions, the importance of causality, phases in intervention development and the relationship between development and evaluation of interventions.
- Apply approaches to evaluation including novel approaches such as realist evaluation and natural experiments and demonstrate when to use the different evaluation approaches
- Demonstrate critical reflection on their own and others' roles and responsibilities in a group project.
