SummaryThis course aims to develop an integrated understanding of modern approaches to some of the core areas of psychology (the remaining core areas to be covered in Psychology 1B). Students are also presented with a broader historical, conceptual and methodological framework of scientific and psychological research. Besides this, students are taught and can practice a range of general research skills.
Course description The course will cover key findings and concepts in psychological science. Blocks of lectures will cover core psychological areas. Tutorials and labs will accompany the lectures teaching skills in consuming and producing psychological research and presenting that research to scientific audiences.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Show knowledge of the key concepts and scope of psychological research.
  2. Understand basic theoretical questions and arguments in psychological science.
  3. Apply and report on a range of research methods commonly used by psychologists to address theoretical questions.
  4. Summarize some classic and some recent findings, and show basic understanding of how they relate to one another.
  5. Build critical thinking skills and develop the ability to critically evaluate psychological research studies and write-ups.
