Summary | The course introduces the principles of a 'Product Lifecycle' and assesses the implications of advanced enterprise-wide information systems for the organisation of product development and beyond. By drawing on original case study materials, video resources, and industrial guest speakers, the course explores the philosophies of Product Lifecycle Management and Product Data Management and examines the interactions between information technologies, organisation and product data. |
Course description |
The course will be developed to facilitate hybrid teaching and will compromise a series of 6 x 3 hour workshop sessions that will encourage student-centred learning. A combination of technical lectures, guest speakers from industry and practical manufacturing experience will be employed to allow students to make informed decisions regarding the selection and effective implementation of such manufacturing approaches.
Workshop 1: Introduction - sources of information, databases
Workshop 2: Querying manufacturing databases
Workshop 3: PDM and PLM systems
Workshop 4: The Digital Twin
Workshop 5: Presenting Manufacturing information
Workshop 6: Revision
These workshops will be designed so that they can be taught online if necessary.
