Summary | This course will introduce students to a framework for Risk Based Process Safety, as defined by the Center for Chemical Process Safety.
Using a set of case studies, including Piper Alpha, Macondo, the Columbia Space Shuttle and Bhopal, the framework will be illustrated and its elements (Commitment to Safety, Understanding Hazard and Risk, Managing Risk and Learning from Experience) will be explored. This will include safety culture, operational safety, quantitative and qualitative methods of risk assessment and hazard identification and reliability.
Throughout the course Concept Maps will be used as a tool in building understanding of the elements of the course.
