Summary**Online Learning Course**

This course will address the problem that drugs designed against a specific target don't always work as they were intended. In particular, when a drug target is part of a pathway, its inhibition often isn't as effective as was predicted from the properties of the protein in isolation. This course will introduce kinetic modelling of a system of enzymes in which the system has emergent properties that were not obvious from the behaviour of the individual components. The effects of putative inhibitors to one or more of these will be investigated by creating computer models.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Derive kinetic parameters from the scientific literature and databases
  2. Model the time evolution of substrates and products for an individual enzyme
  3. Make more sophisticated models by including more elements
  4. Investigate emergent properties of a system of enzymes
  5. Appreciate how model properties may be verified experimentally
