SummaryA creative keyboard course that introduces students to harmonization and improvisation skills in range of musical styles including jazz, folk, and pop.
Course description This course will develop students¿ creative keyboard skills and adaptability in a variety of styles including jazz, folk and pop. Students will explore harmonisation, improvisation, and accompaniment in these styles and others, and will apply these skills to individual exploration, the transformation of existing music, and the creation of new works. Skills learned will also be useful in the practice and teaching of music outside the formal concert environment. In addition to the formal course assessments, students will have the opportunity to showcase individual performance in a non-assessed Degree Show concert.

Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students)
Pre-requisites It is RECOMMENDED that students have passed Performance and Keyboard 2 (MUSI08049)

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate keyboard skills in a variety of styles including jazz, folk and pop.
  2. Understand harmony, improvisation and accompaniment in jazz, folk and pop idioms.
  3. Apply these newly developed skills to individual exploration, beyond the conventional 'classical' format.
