SummaryThis course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of Statistics. The underlying rigorous mathematical framework is provided for analyzing different forms of data and the interpretation of the corresponding results discussed in detail. By the end of the course, students will be able to estimate parameter values for different statistical models and conduct a range of hypothesis tests.
Course description Topics will include :

Sampling distributions
Estimators, including MLEs
Interval estimation
Hypothesis testing
Regression
Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)

In addition the statistical package R will be introduced and used within the course.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Estimate the parameter(s) and confidence interval(s) of the underlying distribution from which the observed data are drawn.
  2. Perform statistical hypothesis tests, regression and analysis of variance.
  3. Interpret the output from statistical analyses.
  4. Use the statistical computer package R to perform a number of statistical analyses.
