Course description |
This multi-level course is aimed mainly at those who wish to improve their English language before starting a degree course in the UK. It would also be useful for students with a general background who wish to improve their English in a university setting.
Academic and General English is composed of four principal elements.
In General English, all students work on grammar, accuracy and skills for more general purposes.
In English for Academic Purposes, all students work on functional language and skills related to study.
Electives allow students the flexibility to choose from skills, topic, exam or culture-based options.
In Guided Self-Study, students follow a programme of self-study in addition to essential coursework and homework (We recommend at least four hours per week for GSS). This is based on an initial self-evaluation and goals set by each student in collaboration with the tutor. A record of GSS is kept and viewed by the student and tutor each week with completed work stored in an online study portfolio.
Students are placed in groups according to IELTS level and performance in our placement test, and buy their own core course books (normally 2 books per term). There are 20 teaching hours per week, Monday to Friday.
