| Course description |
This multi-level course is aimed mainly at those who wish to improve their English language before starting a degree course in the UK. It would also be useful for students with a general background who wish to improve their English in a university setting.
Our learning environment gives students the flexibility to choose the strands and options which best suit their needs. The day begins with Integrated Language Improvement (Strand A), which all students attend. In the second strand (Strand B) of the morning, students have the option of choosing English for Academic Purposes or English Skills for General Purposes. In the afternoon (Strand C), students can choose from a number of skills based or topic-based options including IELTS preparation.
Students are placed in groups according to performance in our placement test, and buy their own core course books (normally 2 books per term). There are 20 teaching hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Communicate more effectively and independently in a variety of contexts both orally and in writing.
- Produce written texts of various types, develop an argument, describe or recount events and observe the conventions of the genre within which they are writing.
- Listen with increased confidence to live and recorded English texts and be better able to process meaning from these same texts.
- Focus better on accuracy in grammar and lexis, particularly in terms of monitoring own language use and proof reading.
- Use appropriate learning and study skills to help improve independent learning strategies.
