SummaryThis course will develop understanding of the process of research, and equip students to make a research contribution in Linguistics and English Language.
Course description The course focuses on understanding and evaluating existing research, principles of research design and hypothesis testing, and effective communication of research findings. Students will work through a representative research articles in different areas of linguistics in a supported way. Together we will consider how research goals are indicated, methods are outlined, data is presented, and results interpreted. There will be additional sessions on statistical literacy, designing a research question, data collection, applying for ethical approval, timeline of the dissertation and writing up.
