Course description |
This course introduces key principles of experimental design and statistical analysis as applicable to linguistic and psycholinguistic research. We will explore a range of widely-used statistical methods, and students will learn how to apply them and under what circumstances they are appropriate, as well as how to interpret their outputs in terms of the underlying research questions. We will also consider how to design experiments so as to yield meaningful results and be amenable to straightforward statistical analysis.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the difference between descriptive and inferential statistics;
- critically evaluate experimental designs and statistical analyses;
- perform a range of statistical analyses with a widely-used statistical software package;
- present the results of statistical analyses in a clear and comprehensible way.
