SummaryArabic for Beginners at Honours Level (a) is an elementary course in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). It is worth 20 credits and runs in Semester 1 only. No previous knowledge of Arabic is required for entry to the course.

Prohibited Combinations Other requirements All students attend five Arabic classes per week. On Mondays the cohort is split into two, with each group attending a lecture at either 9.00 am or 2.00 pm. Students will be allocated to a lecture group and they should attend each week at the allocated time.

On Tuesdays to Fridays students attend language classes which will be scheduled each day at 9.00 am, 10.00 am, 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm. Students will be allocated to a group of approx 20 - 25 students, and they should attend the same group each day at the allocated time.

Students attending language classes at 9.00 am and 10.00 am will attend the 9.00 am lecture on Mondays, and students allocated to the 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm language classes will attend the 2.00 pm lecture. Students will be allocated to groups according to their availability.

Learning Outcomes
The course is designed to introduce students to elementary features of Modern Standard Arabic. Students are taught how to read and write the Arabic script and are introduced to some of the main features of Arabic grammar and some basic vocabulary.
