Additional Information (Assessment)	During week 1 of their final year students must submit a 1,000 word outline of their dissertation. As a minimum, this should include details of the topic and the research question to be made; a summary of current literature on the topic and an indicative bibliography; a chapter-by-chapter outline; and details of any practical issues related to the research that have been identified. The final assessment takes place at the end of the fourth year with the submission of a 10,000 word dissertation (see IMES Dissertation (part 2)).

Learning Outcomes
The dissertation aims to develop and demonstrate analytical and organisational skills in a particular area, thus giving students an insight to the world of research and scholarship. A dissertation does not necessarily aim at exhaustiveness within its field or topic, nor does it need to incorporate original research, although both elements may be apparant in the completed dissertation.
