Summary | The course draws upon theory and research from psychology to describe how children, adolescents (and sometimes adults) learn and study. It covers key learning theories and provides a detailed and comprehensive insight into understanding learners and how to optimally support learning. |
Course description |
In particular, the course will cover:
- Theories of learning: Classic and contemporary
- Learners cognition, meta-cognition, attributes, and mental health and wellbeing
- Learning during childhood, adolescence (and at times, adulthood).
- Diverse learners
- Digital learners
The course draws upon psychological theory and research and students are encouraged to engage with the research literature throughout. Furthermore, they will be encouraged to consider the pedagogical implications of the research to optimally support learners.

This course will be assessed through two components: a group presentation (20% of final grade) and a 3000 word essay (80% of final grade).
There will be different opportunities for feedback to support students with learning and assessment throughout the course. Furthermore, feedback from assessment 1 will be received by students in time to be used for assessment 2. |
