SummaryThe PDLDT course is a compulsory course for students wishing to follow the Dance Educator's pathway to QTS and eligibility for GTCS recognition within MSc Dance Science & Education (MSc DSE with QTs).
The 18 weeks of placement within this course are designed to support and challenge students, providing mentoring and coaching, feedback, opportunities to apply academic learning in a teaching context, and space for reflection. This will all be done within the supportive framework used for any student placement in a school or informal learning environment. In addition students will have access to a range of additional Professional Learning opportunities.
Course description The PDLDT course is a compulsory course for students wishing to follow the Dance Educator's pathway to QTS and GTCS recognition within the MSc Dance Science & Education degree.
The 18 weeks of placement (6 weeks Primary Schools, 6 weeks Secondary Schools & 6 weeks community placement) are designed to support and challenge students, providing mentoring and coaching, feedback, opportunities to apply academic learning in a teaching context, and space for refl ection. This will all be done within the supportive framework used for any student placement in a school or informal learning environment. In addition students will have access to a range of additional Professional Learning opportunities.

The Professional Learning will be underpinned by a commitment to;

- subscription to the idea of education as transformative and an acknowledgement of the need for teachers and educators to adopt activist stances,

- designing and delivering our programmes with reference to cutting edge international research and practice and
- putting the learner at the heart of all we do

3.A written task (40%): this will be a written assignment that will be related to a policy document2
4.A presentation (20%) of a digital Dance Education resource that the student has developed for a chosen context within the Community placement experience of the course

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. On completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Plan for and deliver coherent, progressive and appropriate dance lessons in a range of settings (Primary, secondary & community or additional support needs) using appropriate teaching strategies and pedagogy 2. Organise and manage a safe, caring and purposeful learning environment for lifelong learning in dance 3. Demonstrate an understanding of the professional responsibilities for a dance teacher within an educational environment 4. Work collaboratively with fellow students in various academic and professional contexts
  2. By the end of the secondary school placement, you will be able to: 1. Work under guidance in a collaborative relationship with school colleagues and other student teachers, while becoming increasingly autonomous as a teacher and addressing the Responsibility of All in the teaching and learning of dance in the classroom. 2. Use a range of communication skills to professionally interact with learners in the school setting. 3. Apply your knowledge, skills, and understanding of pedagogy and assessment to plan, teach and assess small groups and whole class contexts, for extended periods of time toward one full week. 4. Apply your knowledge and understanding of dance in BGE (Broader General Education) and certificated curricular content to plan towards the responsibilities of all teachers and provide purposeful learning for all young learners. 5. Critically review and consolidate your own professional knowledge, skills, and practices to develop as a reflective practitioner
  3. By the end of the community education placement, you will be able to: 1. Work collaboratively under guidance in a collaborative relationship with colleagues, while becoming increasingly autonomous as a teacher, addressing the responsibilities of all in the teaching and learning environment for dance. 2. Use a range of communication skills to professionally interact with children and adults in the community setting. 3. Apply your knowledge, skills, and understanding of pedagogy and assessment in order to plan, teach and assess small groups and whole class contexts, for extended periods of time toward two full weeks. 4. Apply your knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of all in the teaching and learning environment for dance in order to plan purposeful learning for children, young people and/or adults. 5. Critically review and consolidate your own professional knowledge, skills and practices in order to develop as a reflective practitioner
  4. By the end of the primary school placement, you will be able to: 1. Work under guidance in a collaborative relationship with school colleagues and other student teachers, while becoming increasingly autonomous as a teacher and addressing the Responsibility of All in the teaching and learning of dance in the classroom. 2. Use a range of communication skills to professionally interact with young learners in the school setting. 3. Apply your knowledge, skills, and understanding of pedagogy and assessment in order to plan, teach and assess small groups and whole class contexts, for extended periods of time e.g., one full week. 4. Apply your knowledge and understanding of dance within the CfE across Ex Arts and HWB and work towards interdisciplinary projects and teaching in order to plan purposeful learning for young learners. 5. Critically review and consolidate your own professional knowledge, skills and practices in order to develop as a reflective practitioner
