Summary | This course will help and support students throughout the process of their honours research projects by offering a series of workshops designed by the students.Building on the learning outcomes of the three previous CBR courses this workshop based course will offer an academic space for students as they embark on their honours research projects.These workshops will provide an opportunity for students to gather more information about research approaches and techniques and share sources of research. |
Course description |
1) Academic Description
Building on the learning outcomes of the three previous CBR courses this workshop based course will offer an academic space for students to build their theoretical and practical knowledge and capacity of social research. These workshops will provide an opportunity for students to study in more depth research approaches and techniques and share sources of research. Students will begin the course with a fairly clear idea of what the research topic of their dissertation will be and how they intend to go about their project and this course will compliment their dissertation project..

Ontological perspectives on research
Epistemology and Methodology
Issues of reflexivity and ethics
Qualitative research methods
Data Analysis
Practitioner research
Design and create a research poster
3) Learning Experience
This will be a highly participative and collegial learning experience as students will identify and organise a lot of the content of the workshop sessions depending on their research interests and the development of their projects. Academic staff and practitioners may be invited to join particular workshops to share advice and expertise.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Plan and organise a substantial research project
- Identify appropriate data sources and organise the process of collection
- Complete the collection and storage of data sources and understand the GDRP implications
- Design ethical research, which takes account of power and positionality in the research process.
- Create and present an academic poster outlining a research proposal.
