This course introduces the tools of microeconomic analysis, with a special emphasis on writing mathematical proofs. These tools are widely used in modern micro-founded macroeconomics, industrial economics, public economics, labour economics, environmental economics, international economics and finance.
The exact sequence of topics varies from year to year. In recent years, the main topics of the course were general equilibrium theory, decision theory, game theory and metric spaces.

Model formulation and analysis is examined separately from mathematical maturity in separate exams. Both topics are assessed in December and May. The weights are:
* Model formulation and analysis: 66% split between the December exam (25%) and May exam (75%).
* Mathematical maturity: 33% (maximum of December and May scores) |

- Analysis: applying the tools to economic models to obtain model predictions.
