SummaryThis course will introduce a range of fundamental skills and principles within architectural computer drawing to ensure students can use CAD software to develop spatial design projects and professional presentation competencies.
Course description This course involves weekly workshops during which time students will be taken through the various stages and tools within 2D and 3D CAD software for architectural spatial design drawing. Using weekly design exercises and supporting tasks, students will gain basic knowledge of these computer programmes with a focus on architectural drawing standards and spatial design. This course encourages development of 2D orthographic and, progressively, basic 3D spatial modelling skills. At the end of the course, students will demonstrate their skills using the selected programmes to support, draw and present a spatial design project in response to a given brief or case study.

Relationship between Assessment and Learning Outcomes:

All three Learning Outcomes are assessed, and are equally weighted in the assessment, of all assessment components.
Feedback Formative feedback and Assessment:

Workshops and tutorials will include verbal feedback from peers and/or staff on a weekly basis.
Mid-semester, there will be a formative feedback point where students will submit a self-evaluation form, along with course work to date, and be given written formative feedback on this.

Summative Feedback and Assessment:

At the end of the course students will submit a final edited portfolio of work and a self-evaluation form, and be given written feedback and grades on their work submitted.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate through a reflective course blog engagement with the fundamental principles of 2D and 3D CAD skills learnt in each weekly workshop.
  2. Develop and document a design project through the application of taught CAD skills.
  3. Present finalised design drawings using 2D and 3D CAD to a professional standard.
