| Summary | The course is intended to enable participants to critically analyse the annual reports and financial statements of corporations from around the world and to develop their use of analytic techniques to critically understand business in its environment and to consider the relationships between accounting statements, corporate strategy and business valuation. |
| Course description |
Participants will learn to read corporate reports and financial statements. They will calculate and utilise accounting ratios and metrics critically and will interpret them rigorously. Participants will also gain understanding of the limitations of financial statements and of methods for evaluating the quality of these statements.
Key issues within the teaching of financial analysis, indeed of any form of analysis, are criticality and rigour. These issues are emphasised and demonstrated throughout the course.
Teaching also includes a series of accounting workshop sessions for students with a limited background in accounting.

Student Learning Experience
Learning will primarily be through lecture attendance, reading, reflective-thinking practical workshop activities. Accounting and analysis concepts take time and effort to assimilate. A high level of active participation is also expected from students and are expected to actively participate and so students should expect to have to work hard. Supplementary exercises and solutions will be also provided for students to work through as self-study.
