Summary | This course is composed of 2 main parts
1. Professional & Clinical Skills 4 which runs over semester 1 and 2, up to the Easter break.
2. Final Year Preparation (FYP) which runs for 6 weeks after the Easter break. FYP is divided into 2 threads allowing retaking students time to study and retake any failed exams before the start of final year in June.

Course description |
Professional Skills 4 teaches business skills essential for practice including finance, leadership, management, client care, dealing with conflict in the work place, the RCVS code to professional conduct. We also focus on communication with clients in challenging situations and personal wellbeing in practice.
Clinical Skills focus on anaesthesia, pain management and clinical pathology
The FYP part of the professional and clinical skills course uses face to face and online teaching to help prepare you for starting to work on clinics and for work post-graduation. The teaching will be based on theory already taught earlier in the course, helping you to apply and integrate it to a clinical setting

There are four elements to passing the Professional and Clinical Skills Course :-
1. Attendance - You are expected to attend ALL of the professional and clinical skills practical/tutorial classes listed on this course, but you MUST attend a minimum of 75% of these classes to pass this course.
2. Code of Professional Conduct Assessment (open book, online MCQs)
3. Integration of Professional Skills into Practice Essay.
4. Portfolio Submission - A complete portfolio MUST be handed in before the given deadline.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the ethical and legal responsibilities of a veterinary surgeon in relation to patients, clients, society and the environment
- Demonstrate knowledge of the organisation, management and legislation related to a veterinary business
- Recognise personal and professional limits and know how to seek professional advice, assistance and support when necessary. Demonstrate the personal attributes and behaviours required of a professional (including the online identity and ability to enter text into online systems for the purposes of assessment, learning and professional activities) and start to develop effective time and stress management, independent learning, study skills and reflective practices.
- Further develop clinical skills relevant to physical examination, diagnostic approaches and therapeutic strategies in common veterinary species
- Develop a problem based approach to clinical cases
