SummaryA course aimed at developing generic research and presentation skills.

Students develop and explore a topic of their own choice within a given theme. The course is intended to equip students with core skills that will be used in the student research component of third year and beyond. Topics chosen for SRC Foundation should not directly relate to material taught elsewhere in the BVM&S programme.

Course description During the SRCf course you should develop your skills in:

- developing a research topic
- the acquisition and organisation of knowledge around a research question
- the presentation of knowledge in a structured and interesting way
- communication between team members
- team management and time management

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Using SRCf course themes, and extending beyond the bounds of the taught BVM&S curriculum, create a research question suitable for collaborative group work.
  2. Evaluate difference sources of evidence in relation to the research question, revising and adapting the research question if necessary.
  3. Assemble the research findings professionally in three formats: a referenced blog, a conference poster and an oral poster presentation.
  4. Critically select source references and cite them in academic format.
  5. Organise and manage work load and tasks within the research group, seeking advice where necessary.
