SummaryTHIS COURSE IS RESTRICTED TO YEAR 1 BUSINESS SCHOOL STUDENTS. The Business School supports you to maximise your potential throughout your time at university and in your future careers. This course provides the opportunity to explore key factors that are fundamental to personal development and well-being, enabling you to feel equipped and confident in setting and achieving your individual goals and ambitions; and enhancing your ability to become change agents in order to make a difference in the world; and positively influence the lives of others.
Course description This course will introduce you to a variety of theoretical models which explore psychological well-being and their applicability within the business environment. These models will be used as the basis for developing self-awareness, personal and professional strength and growth, and evaluating how these can be fostered in others, in order to achieve a positive impact on organisational performance, through adaptability and change.

This course may include some or all of the following:
- Personal and professional development; identifying, developing and reflecting on skills, mind-sets and behaviours needed to enhance personal performance and employability;
- The concept of utilising personal strengths as a way of enhancing personal well-being;
- Being self-aware and emotionally aware of others; recognising how your feelings affect you and others, and your performance;
- The importance of connecting with others, building and maintaining positive relationships which are fundamental to well-being;
- Developing a sense of purpose; a predictor of well-being. Requires curiosity and self-awareness and facilitates goal setting and connectedness. Involves exploring what you believe in, what you value in life, what motivates you where you want to make a difference;
- Career well-being; finding a career that you enjoy doing and being engaged in the career you choose;
- Resilience, self-leadership and/or coaching.

Student learning experience:
Fundamentally this course is about allowing you to understand yourself and others in a safe and supportive environment, so that you are able to develop strength, confidence and resilience in both your academic and professional journeys. You will be expected to undertake prescribed reading and lecture materials, and engage in live tutorials. There will be opportunities to undertake personal and professional formative assessments, understand group dynamics and how to work in groups, and benefit from group coaching conversations. You will be assessed through an individual vlog and the development of a personal and professional portfolio.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand models and theories of psychological well-being and be able to apply them to your own personal and professional development.
  2. Demonstrate your personal and professional development journey through a portfolio of evidence.
  3. Evaluate your emotional awareness of self and others, within a diverse range of social and cultural contexts.
  4. Understand and reflect on your strengths, psychological resilience, and well-being in order to meet personal, academic and professional challenges.
  5. Communicate utilising written, audio and video tools.
