| Summary | This course introduces the principles of policy process development in the context of One Health, highlighting the importance of understanding the various components of policy development and the influences, drivers and stakeholders involved in that process. |
| Course description |
The weekly content is proposed to follow this framework in the first instance, but may be revised during the lifetime of the course:
Week 1: Introduction to the policy process and its role in One Health
Week 2: One Health policy frameworks for integrating disease surveillance and control
Week 3: Designing and conducting policy research
Week 4: Communicating policy outcomes
Week 5: Critical analysis of One Health initiatives from the policy perspective

- Understand the evolution of One Health from its historical origins towards the current international movement
- Understand how policy is made and how it 'can be changed'
- Analyse current examples of One Health approaches from the policy perspective
- Understand and appreciate the challenges faced in 'institutionalizing' One Health

The study materials provided in this course will enhance the student's abilities to search for, read and understand the relevant scientific literature, to use this to support specific arguments and to present the findings in a coherent and appropriate way. They will also develop skills in One Health Policy through the use of an online learning platform, online search engines and word-processing and presentation packages. Online discussion with tutors and peers will develop confidence in communicating with others and the skills to engage in high level academic discourse. The independent study aspect of the course will enhance the student's abilities in time-management and self-motivation. |
