SummaryIndividuals in groups of 4/5 will be expected to dissect a whole human cadaver to the level of that contained in Grants Dissector. Dissection is carried out in two week blocks, with the anatomy covered in each block being assessed by an end of block viva. This part of the course runs throughout the entire semester and is largely self-directed, however there are regular "surgeries" when teaching staff are present to answer questions and help students with the dissections.

Learning Aims and Objectives:
1. To understand the anatomy of the Abdomen, Pelvis, Head and Neck both systematically and regionally.
2. To be able to clearly demonstrate and explain the anatomy as dissected.
3. To communicate confidently and competently using correct anatomical terminology.
4. To relate structure to function of the areas being dissected.
5. To relate the anatomy of clinical relevance.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Work cooperatively in a small group.
  2. Demonstrate using correct anatomical terminology the key anatomical features of the Abdomen, Pelvis, Head and Neck regions.
  3. Acquire practical dissecting skills to a standard to produce quality prosections.
  4. Apply anatomical knowledge to understand the function and clinical relevance of the areas being dissected.

Graduate Attributes and Skills On completion of this module students should have a thorough knowledge of anatomy to a level allowing them to teach anatomy to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. They will also have acquired dissecting skills allowing them to produce quality prosections which can be used for teaching.
