Summary | The development of novel repair strategies in neurodegenerative disease will be informed by a detailed understanding of the normal and abnormal development of the peripheral and central nervous system and the consequences of injury and degenerative disease. This course highlights current research and covers both basic science and clinically based insights. A selection of diseases and techniques that are of key importance to neuroscientists will be discussed in lectures and interactive sessions. These will include Inherited Peripheral Neuropathies, Multiple Sclerosis, Motorneurone Disease, Stroke, Alzheimer¿s Disease, Psychiatric Illness and Cognitive Disorders, and Epilepsy. Each lecture will be delivered by a research-active scientist or clinician. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Critically compare the various models and cells with an ability to discuss strengths and weaknesses of them
- State, illustrate and compare multiple models of neural development
- State, illustrate and compare multiple neurodegenerative diseases and their various models
- Evaluate and criticise the literature around the topics
- Review their own knowledge generated throughout this course and present their findings in a cohesive manner
