Summary | This course will provide a broad introduction to Electrochemistry and electrochemical technology. The course will introduce the principles of Electrochemistry and review their application in a wide range of areas such as synthesis, energy systems, materials and surface engineering and water treatment. Special emphasis will be put on the design and engineering aspects behind electrochemical technology. |
Course description |
The course will consist of 20 Lectures which will cover the following topics:
Topic 1: Introduction to Electrochemistry and Electrochemical Engineering
Topic 2: Basic principles of Electrochemistry
Topic 3: Potential and thermodynamics of electrochemical cells
Topic 4: Kinetics of electrode processes
Topic 5: Transport phenomena
Topic 6: Electroanalytical methods
Topic 7: Electrochemical reactors
Topic 8: Electrolysis
Topic 9: Materials and surface engineering
Topic 10: Electrochemical energy systems
Topic 11: Corrosion

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand principles of electrochemical processes.
- Grasp electroanalytical methods and their use.
- Have knowledge of different applications of Electrochemistry in areas such as synthesis, materials, environment and energy.
- Link principles of electrochemistry and electroanalytical results to electrochemical processes and suggest design solutions to engineering problems.
