| Summary | The main objective of Latin 2HB is to advance further the student's knowledge of the Latin language and to develop the ability to read independently in Classical Latin with linguistic and literary understanding.

| Course description |
This course will focus on Latin grammar and syntax, unseen translation from Latin to English, and reading and interpretation of prescribed prose and verse texts. In lectures attention is paid to linguistic and literary aspects of the texts, to cultural and historical contexts, and to generic affiliations. In tutorials attention is paid to the honing of students' expertise in the reading and writing of Latin, and in literary and textual criticism to a more advanced level than Latin 1HA, 1HB and 2HA.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- demonstrate in coursework and examinations a wider and deeper knowledge of the structure and idiom of the Latin language, more advanced than their experience in Latin 1HA, Latin 1HB, and/or Latin 2HA.
- demonstrate in coursework and examinations an enhanced ability to locate works of Latin literature in their literary, social, historical, and intellectual contexts
- demonstrate in coursework and examinations an ability to analyze and pass informed critical judgment on specific works and passages
- demonstrate especially in their coursework essay an ability to locate and use relevant forms of primary and secondary evidence in building up a coherent and relevant argument
