| Summary | Classes are seminars of written and spoken language classes with native speakers. Points of grammar will be covered on a weekly basis and these will be reinforced in small group spoken and written language classes with the intention of consolidating the student's proficiency in the 4 core skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
If you are a first year joint hons student studying two languages you may not take this course. It is available to second year joint hons language students.
During hybrid delivery there will be two weekly sessions of 30 minutes each of contact time which will be mainly dedicated to spoken practice. In addition, students will be provided with other opportunities to practice their language skills by making contribution to discussion boards, recording themselves speaking in Catalan and posting on the class¿ Padlet link. They will also be able to post their language questions to a dedicated discussion board of language queries.
Students will also be expected to do some group work to write collaborative text and to deliver oral presentations. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- To read and understand different typologies of simple and short written and oral texts dealing with familiar topics, as well as social and cultural matters with emphasis on the Catalan speaking territories.
- To engage in basic conversation on everyday situations provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help; articulate simple opinions and deliver short oral presentations on topics related to Catalan culture.
- To compose simple descriptive texts in Catalan such as short personal letters, descriptions, and basic opinions and reflections on Catalan culture and culture.
- To familiarise oneself with cultural communities and societies where Catalan is used and describe sociocultural similarities and differences.
- To use reliable language resources and authentic material to become an effective language learner.
