| Summary | After having explored the historical and theoretical background of Intermediality as a subject and a practice during the first semester, this second semester course will focus on the interaction between art forms and media such as literature, theatre, music and cinema. From an interdisciplinary perspective, special attention will be paid on the one hand to the relation between image and text, and on the other between words, sounds and (still and moving) images. |
| Course description |
Over the course of the semester, students will explore a variety of intermedial configurations and critical approaches. During each seminar, the discussion will often be based on one or two reasonably short theoretical texts on the topic in question, followed by an analysis of specific intermedial combinations in the light of the issues discussed. All materials taught on this course will be available in English/translation.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of a number of critical theories and different approaches to the study of intermediality, as a subject and as a practice.
- Analyse a range of art works and forms from an intermedial perspective, and to critically reflect on specific interactions between media such as literature, music, painting, photography and film.
- Assess a range of applications of theories and approaches and their results as well as their usefulness for the student's own research interests.
- Work autonomously both as part of a group and on their own.
