SummaryThis course is concerned with the study of operations management in sport organisations. Students will consider the processes of design, implementation and control of sport service operations. Examination of current practice and issues will be undertaken throughout the course.
Course description The course aims to link theory to practice and demonstrate an understanding of the role and scope of operations management in sport. It will focus on the effective and efficient management of human resources and physical resources in a range of facilities in the private and public sectors. This course will cover topics such as, how operations managers lead, direct and motivate the operational team to ensure a quality service delivery. Different approaches to the control and management of staff and customers, to how to deal with operational issues such as, accidents and emergencies and ensure compliance with statutory requirements and organisational policies and procedures. The course will cover relevant aspects of Health & Safety legislation and Employment Law.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate knowledge of of the role and nature of operations management in sport organisations
  2. Evaluate different quality systems and the process of enhancing customer experiences in the sport
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of human resource management and operational efficiency in the sport
  4. Understand different approaches to the programming, design and management of space and facilities for sport
  5. Identify health and safety issues and risk management in the sport environments
